Differences

 Current mood: disappointed
This past weekend was an interesting one to say the least. Those who talk to me often know why. My battle between rage and compassion was put to the test. Those that had less to lose, a heart less fond, a brain not yet matured, were entertained by a very sad and unfortunate situation. I thought to myself, "How can they be cheering like that? Don't they care? Do they realize what just happened?" As everyone congratulated the fact that it was caught on tape and it was "sooo cool", very few realized the reality of the whole situation. This wasn't make-believe. This wasn't in a movie. This was real and someone really got hurt. Other people could have gotten hurt. This wasn't high school. This was real life. I doubt that anyone could possibly understand the fear that went through me and the hurt I felt.
I had one very sweet person kneel next to me as my hand covered my mouth, and as the tears came down, prayed that everything was going to be okay. She just said "It's going to be okay" and rubbed my back as the evening unfolded. The most interesting thing, is that I have known her for about 4 weeks. The people I have known longer, or spoke to more frequently jumped and cheered during the surreal experience. Few guys stood up and acted as men. Most acted as boys. I lost respect for many, and gained a loads of respect for few. I can't thank enough those that stood up for what was right.
Then, I began to think about the true meaning of friend and how many people can act a certain way, but wehn it comes down to showing their friendship, they just just sit down.
Maybe it's just me. Maybe it has nothing to do with real friends vs acquaintances. Maybe I was just dissolusioned by the fact that many people are still young or immature...and have a lot to learn.
